Welcome to the Knights of Columbus, the world’s largest Catholic family SERVICE organization. As their forebears did more than a century ago, Today’s knights and their families stand shoulder to shoulder in support of one another. Through their CHARITY and the examples of their lives, they stand in SERVICE to all as witnesses to the Good News of the Gospel.”
Although the Order is a “CAN-DO” organization, its scope and the role it plays on the world stage often surprises people.”
Charity…
Unity…
Fraternity…
Patriotism…”
By their DEEDS shall you know them. The Knights of Columbus is very much a grassroots organization. The international body does not dictate the CHARITABLE PROGRAMS and activities of local councils. Rather, local councils develop the PROGRAMS they believe will best serve the needs of their communities.”
Brothers All,
We learned the above from the booklet we all received upon joining the Knights of Columbus “These Men They Call Knights”. These charges set before us are accomplished by our “DOING”. Ours is not an arm chair society, rather, we take pride in working in the trenches for the benefit of those in need. The five individual program directors and myself are here to help you accomplish your council program objectives. The publication “Surge With Service” is a great starting point. The next step is to develop a year long program plan that encompasses the five areas of Church, Community, Council, Youth, and Family. By doing this, all councils can distribute their charitable efforts among the five designated areas and earn the recognition of the Columbia Award. In addition, there are suggested programs listed on the state web site. The form for writing up your programs is also posted. Please send them along to the individual directors as soon as the programs are completed. We are here to serve you. Please contact any one of us for help, suggestions, or encouragement.
Fraternally yours,
Gary R. Wolpert, State Program Director
