Introductions - July 21, 2007

My Worthy Brothers,

Welcome to the new Fraternal Year. I hope that you look forward to the events and programs as much as I do. I am not new to ceremonials; I have performed on the 1st degree for over 20 years. I also do parts on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th degrees. I have served our state as ceremonials director for a year during Ed Mele’s term as State Deputy. So as you can see, I am no stranger to this challenge. However, I do find it necessary to attend degrees as a spectator once in a while to truly get the full effect of the exemplification.

Our founders did not create the ceremonials because they had nice voices or because they liked to wear robes. Our ceremonials were created to teach a very important lesson in the virtues of Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism. The words, the robes and the props were put together to drive home the importance of these lessons. The very first thing a new member participates in is his 1st degree, learning the beautiful lesson of Charity, that gift placed in our souls by God. As we learn in the degree, this is first and foremost, a duty to our fellow man.
In the 2nd degree we learn about the power of Unity. How many of us have worked on a council function that everyone thought was just too much? ” We can’t do this, it’s too big.” We don’t have enough time, we can’t, we can’t, and we can’t. Then when the project is over, everyone kind of collapses and says, “We did it!” That gentleman is the power of Unity, Brothers banding together to work for a common goal. You’ve heard it a thousand times, “together we can move mountains.”

The 3rd degree is viewed by some as way too much. Some say that it is not a good thing for us to do. I will agree that there are many different ways to view this ceremonial and some are the opposite of what we would like. However, I have told people for years that you can always tell if people are performing their parts correctly, it will be a lively degree. This lesson of Fraternity, or Brotherly Love, is extremely important to all of us. Remember that everyone has feelings, ego, varying levels of patience and different expectations of things. If we are going to unite as Brothers performing acts of charity we must have fraternity in our hearts for those who don’t agree with us and also for those we don’t like to work with.
These virtues are life lessons. To truly be Brother Knights, we must live these virtues everyday and share them with all, those who are our close friends and those who are not so close. So now you have a good idea of where I am coming from. I hope that each of you will resolve to attend each of our ceremonials at least one time during the coming fraternal year and re-pledge yourselves to live the virtues of our Order.
God Bless,
Tom

Second Degree Books are being Re-Called November 14, 2006

My Brothers,
ALL 2nd degree books need to be collected and returned to Supreme. Any District Deputy who has a book, any 2nd team members who have books, any council that has old books in their possession must return them. Over the years there have been many instances where a District Deputy going out of office didn’t turn his books over to the incoming District Deputy. This means that there are books in the possession of many Former District Deputies.

Even if you are still on a 2nd degree team, you are not supposed to have them, . The only person who should have a 2nd degree book at a 2nd degree ceremonial is the prompter (That book should be the property of the team). and the District Deputy.

New books were issued to the degree team captains of record. A couple of months ago I asked for the names of all of the 2nd degree team captains in the state. Those names that were given to me were sent to Supreme and those captains were to be issued the new books. If you have books to be returned, you can send them to me at the address in the directory. I will check off the serial number and return them to Supreme in one mailing. If you have ever had a 2nd degree team and you can’t find your books send me a letter stating so and I will send those also.
Thank you in advance for your efforts.
Tom

Directions to St Patrick’s School, Jaffrey, NH:

From East and North East:

Find your way to Rt 101 (It is the only main East West state route in southern NH)

Go west on 101 to Peterborough. Turn left on Rt 202

(Depending on where you are starting from to the North, you have the option of coming down Rt. 202.)

From Peterborough, take 202 South to Jaffrey. In the center of Jaffrey Rt 202 takes a right at a light and then an immediate left at another light. Don’t take the left. Go straight at the 2nd light, this is Rt 124. St Patrick’s school is about 1 mile up the hill on the right.

If it is snowing, Rt 101 West to Rt 31 South in Wilton to Rt 124 West in New Ipswich to Jaffrey avoids going over Temple Mountain.

 From the South East:

If you are one to try and blaze a trail, you can get to Jaffrey using combinations of Rt 123, and Rt 124, Rt 111, RT 113, Rt. 119 and Rt 202. Mapquest will help.

From the West and North West:

Take Rt 101 East from Keene and turn Right on Rt 124 in Marlborough.

Follow Rt 124 to Jaffrey (Although it is tempting, do not stop and climb Mt Monadnock)

In Jaffrey, St Patrick’s church will be on the right side. (It is stone, you can’t miss it) St Patrick’s school is across the street on the left. Parking is past the school on the lower level.

 From the South West:

Take Rt 119 to Rt 202 in Rindge. Turn left and follow it to the center of Jaffrey.

Turn left at the first traffic light you come to. This is Rt 124. Go about 1 mile up the hill to St Patrick’s school on the right side.
